But within its depths lurks a darkness, a deceptive lure that promises wealth at the cost of innocence. They say those who fall in its current are forever lost by the river's hold, their lives forever corrupted into a desolate melody.
A River of Syrup
On January 15th, 1919, Boston witnessed a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with that thick sweet nectar burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that crashed through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, standing at least 25 feet in some areas, was horrifying. Homes and businesses crumbled under the power of the unstoppable goo.
The aftermath was grim. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more read more sustained wounds. The flood also caused extensive damage to property, leaving a trail of sticky residue in its wake.
A Sticky Situation in Sticky Nightmare
